Sphinx and the Shadow of Set Demo Disc

This is a list of all the known original releases of Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy that were published in optical medium by Eurocom and THQ Inc, including beta and hard-to-find versions.

Terminology[]

The internal build date is the compilation timestamp of the main game binary, generated from preprocessor macros and stored as C strings. They are usually shown in the (sometimes inaccessible) Version Info (F10) window.

This image showcases how the bundled debug symbol maps are used during crashes, for quick QA.

Debug symbols are files with tabular data that map memory addresses to function (or variable) names, and they can be used to make friendlier crash stack trace screens when something bad happens (or that was their original purpose, but they also make it easier to reverse-engineer the game). Usually, final builds of games are stripped and optimized, but sometimes, due to lack of time or something else, the final release (gold disc) ends up being the last QA build.

Display resolutions[]

Here are the real screen resolutions of the backbuffer (at least the ones used by default) for every original game version, in pixels:

NTSC (60 Hz) PAL (usually 50 Hz) 480p/PAL60
PS2 512 x 448 512 x 512 No
GCN 512 x 448 Yes
XBX 640 x 480 Yes
Note: To enable PAL60/480p on the Nintendo GameCube, hold B when starting the game. This is not necessary after the first time (until disabled) or if playing on a Wii. 480p output requires YPbPr cables, an NTSC console, and an NTSC copy of the game (for Nintendo GameCube or Xbox).
