The Portal God is a type of statue in Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy.

Description Edit

The Portal God statues resemble a lion-bodied man wearing a disc-topped nemes. Their likeness is shown on Portal Amulets. Sphinx first encountered the statues while in the Outskirts of the Castle of Uruk. Other statues were located in Abydos, the Mysterious Location, Sun Shrine Island, and Anubis Tower.

Portal Gods appear immobile at first. However, when Sphinx steps near a Portal God's teleportation platform, it immediately leans forward, eyes and disc glowing, and appearing to exhale a glowing mist. When a destination amulet is selected, the Portal God roars, mouth stretching as the traveler is turned into light and swallowed. At the destination, the same happens as the traveler is discharged. The Portal God straightens and returns to immobility as Sphinx moves away.

Portal Gods become amused "at your foolishness" if Sphinx selects the amulet for his current location.

Connection with Ancient EgyptEdit

Portal Gods strongly resemble Sphinxes.

Trivia Edit

  • Heliopolis is the only location to have two separate Portal God statues: Anubis Tower, and Sun Shrine Island.
  • Given how most characters in the game are unaware of the Portal Gods, it is presumed that the statues, as well as the amulets, were lost some time before the game's events. This may also explain why most Portal Gods seem to be tucked away into a confined space. For example, Abydos's is in the sewer, the Mysterious Location's is tucked off to the side, and Anubis Tower's is beneath the communication point.
